Lovina Beach

Lovina Beach and Suroundingthat You Need to Know

Lovina Beach (or often simply Lovina) is a coastal area on the northwestern side of the island of Bali, Indonesia. The coastal strip stretches from 5 km west of the city of Singaraja to 15 km west. Singaraja is the seat of the Buleleng Regency. The Lovina area contains the small villages (from east to west) of Pemaron, Tukad Mungga, Anturan, Banyualit, Kalibukbuk, Kaliasem, and Temukus. It is becoming more popular with tourists but remains far quieter than the tourist hotspots of the island’s south side.

The area takes its name from a home owned by Pandji Tisna (1908-1978), a Regent of Buleleng and pioneer of tourism to Bali in the early 1950s. Popular activities for visitors include diving, snorkeling, and early-morning boat trips off the coast to see dolphins. These dolphin sighting trips usually last about two hours and generally cost anywhere between 60,000–250,000 Indonesian rupiah, or about US$5–$20.

Near the northern tip of the island of Bali lies a stretch of villages by the Bali Sea. Lovina Beach is the name. Lovina is really a string of coastal villages to the west of Singaraja. Escape from the hustle and bustle of Kuta to Lovina Beach located in north Bali, about 100 kilometers from southern tourist hotspots. It is well known as an excellent site for sunset watching, snorkeling, and diving. Darkly beautiful, Lovina offers quiet and calm and is popular Asian tourists and those avoiding the hustle and bustle of the southern beaches. A number of coves offer tranquil, protected waters and Lovina is one of them. Although the sand is grey, it is quiet and peaceful, and popular among those who shun the glitzier beach resorts of the south. It is a popular place for dolphin watching; dolphins play in the water off Lovina. Famous for its early morning dolphin-watching boat trips, Lovina also offers good snorkeling and diving, and trekking in the nearby mountains. Diving off Menjangan Island, part of the Bali Barat National Park, is generally regarded as the best in Bali. Boats are readily available to take divers over to the island, where there are no residents or hotels.

Nightlife activities also abound, as well as chartered boats to go out into the sea. If we like what Kuta offers but do not like the crowd. With a wonderful variety of hotels, restaurants, and bars located on or very near the calm beach, Lovina offers something for everyone. It is also a good base to take day trips to the nearby attractions of north and west Bali.

TOP 5 ACTIVITIES IN LOVINA TOP 5 THINGS TO DO IN LOVINA AND NORTH BALI

Lovina area is an interesting destination for those who love to experience traditional culture in peaceful, rural surroundings of the tranquil northern Bali. Away from the bubbly and touristy spots of the south, you find here the authentic way of Balinese life. Bali Surya Tour Services Lovina welcomes you here and recommends the TOP TWELVE highlights you should not miss to do or see in Lovina:

1. LOVINA BEACHES

Like almost all beaches in the north, the Lovina area offers black sand beaches with easy access to the mellow Bali Sea. You do not find big waves, crashing surf, or strong current here – so ideal relaxing and swimming also for families with younger kids. As all-around Bali, make sure you have high tide when planning to swim. Please consider there is no infrastructure on the beaches in Lovina thus you will not find sunbeds, beach bars or similar. You can buy food and drinks in the local warungs nearby. The most beautiful beach in Central Lovina (from my point of view) is cozy Ganesha Beach at the end of Jalan Kartika.

2. FEASTING ES CAMPUR

Es Campur or Es Buah is delicious iced fruits with different kinds of funny fruity gelly, crushed ice, and (mostly) strawberry milk – sometimes topped with chocolate cream. Choose your fruits and definitely ask for Beluluk (fruits of the sugar palm), which is amazing.

3. VISIT SEKUMPUL AND FIJI WATERFALLS

Sekumpul and Fiji Waterfalls are for sure the most beautiful waterfalls in northern Bali. About one hour east of Lovina and hidden in the rainforest mountains, it is not overrun by masses of visitors – so you might be the only or one of very few visitors there. Once managed lots of stairs down to the pool level, you will enjoy the twin Sekumpul falls to the left and triple Fiji falls to the right. The way is not a plane, so you have to scramble rocks and cross the river twice – but standing close to the falls or swimming in its pools will be amazing. 4. RELAX AT HOLY HOT SPRINGS BANJARA

30 minutes drive from Lovina, the holy hot springs or ‘Air Panas’ of Banjar are set in a beautiful tropical garden. The sulphuric water in the three pitorreske basins is of volcanic origin and has a pleasantly warm temperature of 35 – 39 degrees Celcius. You will see lots of locals coming here to cure rheumatic or other diseases. Changing rooms, lockers, and restaurants available. (Also a spa what is la-la). Great to combine with a visit to the Buddhist Monastery in Banyar.

5. BRAHMA VIHARA ARAMA (BUDDHIST MONASTERY)

A definitely “must-see” or better “must feel” place around Lovina is the only Buddhist monastery on Hinduistic Bali, Brahma Vihara Arama. Located in the hills of Banyar, about 30 minutes away from Central Lovina and 5 minutes from Holy Hot Springs, this peaceful place invites to see the prayer rooms, buddha statues, and beautiful gardens as well as an impressive mini replica of the world’s largest Buddhist archaeological site, Borobudur, on its highest grounds. This meditation areal spreads a very special energy and opens the view far over the hills to the ocean.
